FamilyPlate ("we", "us", "our") is a meal planning web application available at familyplateapp.com. We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your data responsibly.

We collect the following information when you use FamilyPlate:

• Account information: email address and password (encrypted) when you sign up
• Household data: member names, dietary profiles, allergies, life stages, and fasting preferences that you choose to enter
• Usage data: meal plans you generate, dishes you save to your library, pantry items, and app preferences
• Technical data: browser type, device type, and general location (city/region level) for seasonal produce suggestions

We do not collect payment information. FamilyPlate is free to use and does not require a credit card.

We use your data solely to provide and improve the FamilyPlate service:

• To generate personalised meal plans based on your household's dietary needs and preferences
• To remember your pantry, library, and settings between sessions
• To improve the accuracy of our AI meal suggestions over time
• To send transactional emails (account verification, password reset) — we do not send marketing emails without your explicit consent

FamilyPlate uses AI services to generate meal plans, extract recipes, and translate plan messages. Your household data (member profiles, dietary constraints, pantry) is sent to these services solely to generate your meal plan. We do not sell or share your data with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes.

We also use the Open-Meteo API (open-meteo.com) to fetch weather data for your region. No personal data is shared with Open-Meteo — only a general latitude/longitude coordinate.

Your data is stored securely in encrypted databases. We use industry-standard security practices including encrypted connections (HTTPS), encrypted passwords, and row-level security to ensure your household data is only accessible to you.

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from the Settings page (Settings → Danger zone → Delete household). Account deletion is permanent and cannot be undone.

You have the right to:

• Access all data we hold about you (available directly in the app)
• Correct inaccurate data (editable directly in the app)
• Delete your data (Settings → Delete household)
• Export your data — contact us at hello@familyplateapp.com to request a data export

If you are located in the European Union, you have additional rights under GDPR. If you are located in India, your data is handled in accordance with applicable Indian data protection laws.

FamilyPlate uses only essential cookies required for authentication and session management. We do not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking cookies.

FamilyPlate is intended for use by adults managing a household. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under the age of 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us at hello@familyplateapp.com.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by posting a notice on the app. Continued use of FamilyPlate after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
